Press release: The former president and the new of Yemen receive the (Sheba Award for peacemakers 2011) in a grand ceremony in the presidential Palace in a regional and international presence.
Field Marshal Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi,President of the Republic of Yemen and the former president, Field Marshal Ali Abdullah Saleh received today, "Sheba Award for the peacemakers, 2011," during the grand ceremony that was held this morning in the Yemeni presidential Palace in Sana'a to hand over power from former President to his successor, the new president in the presence of the Arab League Secretary General Nabil Arabi, the United Nations envoy Jamal Bin Omar and Chairman and members of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council and the ambassadors of brotherly and friendly countries and the diplomatic corps accredited to Yemen.
The Award Board of Trustees had selected at the beginning of this week, five Yemeni, Arab and international figures to achieve the first version of the "Sheba for peacemakers" award who have had a prominent role in peace-making in Yemen and preventing it from sliding into a devastating civil war during the acute crisis, which lasted a whole year under the banner of "Arab spring" revolutions.
And the other figures that received the award along with Field Marshal Hadi and Field Marshal Saleh were Dr. Yassin Said Numan - Secretary General of the Yemeni Socialist Party, and Dr. Abdul Latif Al Zayani - Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council - Mr. Jamal Bin Omar Secretary-General's envoy to Yemen.
The award was handed over by lawyer / Muhammad Ali Alawo - Head of Maonah Association for Human Rights and migration and lawyer / Ibrahim Shuga'a Al-Din - the head of the April 27 organization to raise awareness of democracy.
In a joint statement issued this evening, Monday, 27 / February /2012, the Board of Trustees confirmed that in the near future a special celebration will be established to hand over the other three Award recipients which could not celebrate them in the inauguration ceremony, which was held today in the presidency Palace due to the lack of time and the intensity of the audience.
