On Monday, September 26, Dunia Al-Thani gave an oral statement on behalf of Ma'onah for Human Rights and Migration and the Geneva International Center for Justice (GICJ).

It highlighted human rights violations committed by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen since 2014. It described the thousands of Yemenis who have been arrested, kidnapped or otherwise forcibly disappeared by the Houthi militia, who have denied them basic rights that constitute trial. fair. It urged the Council to expedite the classification of the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization.

The methods used by the Houthi militia to control the population include torture and the killing of civilians, as well as internet and media restrictions. On September 18, 2021, the Houthis publicly executed 9 civilians in Al Hudaydah Governorate without access to a fair judicial process.

On another urgent matter, I expressed our deep concern about the ongoing human rights violations in Iran and strongly condemned the disproportionate use of force against protesters. Iran must respect the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association. She called on the international community, including the Council, to take concrete steps to protect protesters in Iran.

On behalf of Maonah and the Geneva International Center for Justice, Dunya called on the international community and the Human Rights Council to take concrete steps to prevent this Houthi group from committing more serious violations in the future by pressuring its leaders to end the violence and protect human rights. In addition, she emphasized that Iran must be held accountable for all its violations.
