Association Ma’onah for Human Rights participates in the sixty-eighth annual meetings of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), held in New York, in the largest annual United Nations gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment this year, from March 11 to 22 under the title, “Accelerating the Achievement of Equality gender equality and empowering all women and girls by tackling poverty and strengthening institutions and financing from a gender perspective.”

A statement issued by the United Nations said that the world is at a critical crossroads for gender equality. Globally, 10.3 percent of women live in extreme poverty today, who are poorer than men. Progress towards poverty eradication must be 26 times faster to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Accelerated progress requires investment. Data from 48 developing economies show that an additional $360 billion is needed annually to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment across key global goals, including eradicating poverty and hunger.
In this crucial year, as 2.6 billion people go to the polls to cast their votes, they have the power to demand increased investment in gender equality.
Solutions to ending women's poverty are widely recognized: investing in policies and programs that address gender inequality and strengthening women's agency and leadership. These investments pay huge dividends: more than 100 million women and girls could be lifted out of poverty if governments prioritized education, family planning, fair and equal wages, and expanded social benefits. Nearly 300 million jobs could be created by 2035 through investments in care services. Closing gender gaps in employment could boost per capita GDP by 20 percent in all regions.
In CSW68,

The president of the association, Mohammed Alaw, said in a press statement: Governments, civil society organizations, experts and activists from all over the world will meet to agree on measures and investments that can end women’s poverty and promote gender equality, and the organization will present to the session a number of statements related to the situation of Yemeni women and the violations they face. From all parties to the conflict, a number of Yemeni non-governmental organizations will participate in this session.
