Association Ma’onah praises NYC Mayor’s Order Limiting ICE Access to City Facilities

New York — Association Ma’onah for Human Rights & Immigration (AMHRI) welcomed the executive order issued by the Mayor of New York City on February 6, 2026, which restricts non-local immigration enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), from entering non-public areas of City property without a judicial warrant, with limited exceptions for emergencies or authorized access by City officials.

In a statement, the Association said the measure “strengthens the rule of law and protects residents’ privacy,” noting that requiring a judicial warrant helps curb arbitrary actions and reinforces community trust—especially among immigrant families who rely on schools, health facilities, and social services without fear of enforcement pressure.

The Association added that the order also directs relevant City agencies to review and update protocols and training to ensure consistent implementation, describing this as a step that “moves the policy from a declaration to accountable, enforceable governance.”

AMHRI urged transparent enforcement of the order and public awareness efforts to clarify residents’ rights and the legal differences between judicial warrants and other types of requests, emphasizing that protecting human dignity and ensuring safe access to essential services are “a core responsibility of the City toward all New Yorkers.”
