AMHRI Participates in High-Level UN Side Event on Migration and Urban Development and Discusses Strengthening Partnership with the Global South NGO Platform
The Association Ma’onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) participated in the high-level international side event entitled:
“Safe, Inclusive and Sustainable Cities in the Age of Migration – Towards the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13),” held at United Nations Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the Second International Migration Review Forum (IMRF 2026), co-organized by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The AMHRI delegation participating in the event included:

* Mr. Raafat Haider – Assistant to the President
* Mr. Salah Khaled, Advisor to the President of the Association
* Mr. Yazan Hamed is an activist in the association
The side event addressed challenges related to urban migration, the promotion of migrant inclusion in cities, and the integration of migration policies with sustainable development and local governance frameworks. The discussions featured participation from UN officials, international representatives, and experts in migration and urban development.
Meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the Global South NGO Platform
Following the conclusion of the event, the AMHRI office in New York welcomed Ms. Nadima Rahim Lee, Deputy Secretary-General of the Global South NGO Platform, a global coalition of civil society and human rights organizations representing institutions from more than 117 countries worldwide.
The meeting included extensive discussions on the operational mechanisms of the international coalition of Global South organizations and explored ways to strengthen coordination and joint cooperation between both sides in the fields of human rights, international law, migration, and sustainable development. The discussions also covered the exchange of expertise in international advocacy and multilateral engagement within the United Nations system.
Both parties emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships among independent human rights organizations across the Global South in order to promote international justice, defend the rights of peoples affected by conflicts and humanitarian crises, and expand the participation of civil society in shaping international policies related to human rights, migration, and development.
AMHRI also expressed its interest in developing institutional cooperation with the global platform in a manner that supports joint human rights initiatives and strengthens the presence and role of Global South civil society organizations in international and United Nations forums.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Waleed Hariri and Mr. Abdo nasser Almasmary , Advisors to the President of the Association.
